SEGRA’s code of practice

This covers how energy companies and salespeople must behave when selling gas and electricity ‘face-to-face’ (for example, in your home or in a shopping centre). The guidelines say, among other things, that energy salespeople:

• can call at your home only between 9am and 8pm (unless you ask for a visit outside these times)
• must say who they are and show you a valid identity card
• must do their best to make sure you understand any contract you’ve signed, and your right to cancel
• must not exploit consumers, give them false information or use high-pressure sales tactics
• must leave your home if you ask them to.

Also, if an energy salesperson has forged a signature on your contract, you are entitled to £250 compensation.

A full copy of the code is available from the Energy Retail Association website. All energy sales agents must be accredited by this code and can be dismissed or even ‘struck off’ as a member if they breach it. If you think that a sales agent has broken the code of practice, contact the energy supplier and tell them why.

Doorstep Selling Regulations

If you sign up to a new energy supplier when a salesperson calls at your home, the Doorstep Selling Regulations give you a seven-day cooling-off period during which you can cancel your contract.

But this applies only to unsolicited visits, which means if an energy salesperson calls at your home uninvited or phones you and you agree for them to visit. It doesn’t apply if you make the first move and ask an energy salesperson to visit you.

The energy salesperson must tell you about the cooling-off period. It’s a criminal offence to breach these regulations, and doing so can result in a fine of up to £2,500.

If a doorstep energy salesperson won’t allow you to cancel within the seven days, or you think they’ve broken the regulations in another way, contact your local trading standards department.

If you’re switched to a new energy supplier by mistake

If you have been switched by mistake, the Erroneous Transfer Customer Charter sets out what the suppliers should do to put things right. It says:

• you can contact either the original or the new energy supplier – they share equal responsibility for resolving the problem
• the energy supplier you contact should explain clearly what action they’re going to take and keep you updated with progress
• you should receive written confirmation of the details provided above within five working days of first contacting the energy supplier
• within 20 working days you should receive confirmation that you are being returned to your original supplier
• you shouldn’t have to pay any bills from the ‘new’ energy supplier – you’ll just get a bill at the end from your original energy supplier.

If you think that an energy supplier has breached this code, contact your energy supplier in the first instance and follow its complaints process. If the problem is not resolved satisfactorily, contact Consumer Direct for further advice on how to proceed. You can also have your problem referred to the Energy Services Ombudsman if the case isn’t resolved after eight weeks or you reach a ‘deadlock’ situation (see our How to complain section). Vulnerable consumers can also enlist the help of energy industry watchdog Consumer Focus.

They are RESNET (a non-profit organization) and BPI (Building Performance Institute –they both train and certify energy raters . A well trained auditor should understand the science of how your house works – how air flows – how moisture works – the science of air pressure, etc. The auditor should understand home construction techniques and products. The auditor should understand air conditioning and heating systems.  Just for fun ask your auditor to explain to you the relationship between how your home functions and the second law of thermodynamics! If he/she cannot do it your chosen auditor does not understand the science of your home. The professional auditor will be trained in and utilize a blower door and an IR camera. If necessary for your home the professional auditor will also be trained in and use a duct blaster. These tools are essential if you really want an accurate appraisal of how your house is working. Go to the government’s DOE website and see what the government’s energy arm says.

      What is a blower door? A blower door is a piece of equipment that measures how much your house leaks and what the air exchange rate is. The air exchange rate is very important for a healthy and energy efficient house. A good/typical air exchange rate is approximately .35 which computes to a whole house air exchange rate of every three hours. Every three hours your house will have “fresh” air. This is for the most part done through leakage. If your house exchanges air every hour it is leaking and your energy dollars are leaking with it. If you “tighten up” a house to an exchange rate of once every eight hours you now run the risk of mold and bad air unless other steps are taken. Over tightening a house without properly sizing the air conditioning unit and without properly exchanging air through mechanical means is a health hazard.  If you do not know the base line air exchange rate it is difficult to measure the improvement (except waiting for the next electric bill). A blower door with the use of a pressure pan can also document leaks in your home’s duct system.

     What is a duct blaster? A duct blaster measures the leaks within your home’s duct system. Did you know that even with properly sealed ducts (because most are located in our hot attics) they can lose 30 – 40% of their efficiency? A duct blaster would only be used if after a comprehensive audit it cannot be ascertained why your bills are so high. You may have a large leak in a duct.

     What is an IR camera? It is a thermal imaging device that works off of temperature differences. It CANNOT look through walls!  It is not XRAY! Let’s assume that it is 95 degrees outside and 75 degrees in your house. If I point my IR camera at your ceiling and it shows high temperature with a nice picture there is a distinct possibility that your insulation is either missing or misplaced. Pointed at a wall it can find spots where insulation is either missing or misaligned. I have seen entire walls where the insulation was omitted during original construction!

    If a home energy audit is done correctly by a trained professional auditor who utilizes the proper tools/diagnostics and the recommendations are complied with you will save money on energy bills! Hire a trained and certified professional!

A Medical Doctor’s Perspective

“Tachyon Energy?”

My introduction to the field of Energetic medicine originally came abruptly. I held back a sarcastic remark as my colleague, Dr. Fontain insisted that a mysterious “Tachyonized™ Belt” had “made me feel 10 years younger… all my aches and pains are gone, and my patients are noticing the difference in my energy level.”

By now, I am getting accustomed to these calls from colleagues. It seems that the medical field itself is going through a transition, and the doctors I associate with are increasingly more interested in non traditional methods. Also, having directed an international anti-aging clinic, many of my patients come from overseas and offer me a more progressive perspective on health.

Still, his claims did seem a little too incredible to be true, and I immediately shelved it in my mind under “U” (unbelievable). Yet, my investigative mind spurred me to embark on a search for other doctors’ research on the topic. I found a paper written by Dr. Vlach, a family physician, and read that his father’s suffering from a sciatic condition (back, leg and foot pain), and diabetes had been alleviated with the use of several Tachyonized™ items.

Renowned physicians such as Dr. Hans Nieper, M.D. (New York Academy of Sciences), are concluding that the discovery of “Tachyon Energy” within the previously assumed empty space of matter will create a revolution in our current view of medicine. Question 20 : Can you explain how you go about with your Diagnosis and Energy Correction, with a Case Study ?

Ofcourse. This particular client of mine is running a garment factory with successful exports to Europe. For 8 years the business flourished and he expanded. Suddenly everything changed. Some of his orders got cancelled and many of his exported consignments got rejected. He started facing some serious labour problems, his financial troubles grew and he faced a couple of litigations too. All this within a single year.

When he came to me, he was depressed and in high stress. He was attracting a negative energy beam from his North and his Mooladhara Chakra had atleast 3 cracks in it. His other lower Chakras were unbalanced. All his upper Chakras, especially his Ajna & Sahasrara were solidly clouded. His South West was opening up and his North East was closing down. So were his land and buildings too. During the subsequent Clairvoyant session, it was revealed to me that the client had been a victim of Black Magic through 3 objects placed in his factory and home. The client agreed and said that he had been told the same through “Prashannam” (a Clairvoyant Casting Method with Vedic Astrology approach) and “Arul Vakku” (Clairvoyant Oracle under Divine Trance). A Tantric had also removed the objects and performed some poojas, about 6 months ago. But he was still sinking. I checked up and found that the objects had indeed been removed, though the negative energy formation still remained in it’s place and was quite strong, as in most of such cases. This was the root cause of all his problems and the source had already contaminated his body and had started corrupting his mind.

After the diagnosis, it was revealed to me that energy flow had to be corrected for 6 of his 8 directions, apart from extensive Chakra Processing. The full solution was to create an 8 armed Crystal Energy Field with the Crystal shapes of Rahu or Vajra Phurba, Maha Meru & a Shri Yantra.
